Kiss and Kick!!

Hmmm....What to Say.....after reading something..which is the fact of life!

I read something from my inspirer's blog, in which she has mentioned "When you come in the world everybody wants to kiss you :) but, before you go out everybody wants to kick you!"
One sentence - if you just read it..it's just one sentence. Read it, re-read it, think about it, analyse it...Ohh! Gosh! The fact of life, reality of the world, the very human nature, withering relationships, diminishing innocence and what not..everything is captured in one sentence!

When you come to this world, you bring happiness to the family, hopes to your parents, promises to the lives you are associated/going to be associated with. Also at that time you are someone who doesn't have any complains and demands, who doesn't have selfishness, who is so pure and innocent, who is uncompetitive,  who is deaf and dumb to every lie uttered, who is blind to every wrongdoing, you believe everything, you astonish for everything, you are content and happy. you just smile or cry for everything. you are serene and so complete! Isn't it sweet? Everybody loves you and wants to kiss you!!!

As you grow up, when you starts understanding the things around, serenity vanishes slowly as the reality of the world usurps. The innocence which was so evident, is now at the verge of extinct!!! Now you have lots of demands! You are selfish because you have thirst. You cannot be pure when you are in the filth. You compete because you want to win. You are no more insensitive to the things around you, so you complain! You cannot be excited for petty things when you have better things to do. You cannot be content amidst the tempt! You cannot smile when you had a blue day. Isn't it true? Then how can you expect everyone to love you? Reality is at one or the other time everyone would have wanted to kick you!!

  1. You know, you have presented a near utopian picture of toddlerhood and a very disturbing and dystopian view of adulthood. Do you think life is that great to people around when we are newborns? For starters, our parents spend a huge portion of their day changing our nappies. (doesnt sound like a fun activity to me, maybe the only promise they see this time is - one day he/she will learn to this on his/her own)

I agree we are much more innocent, likeable, cute etc when we are babies. But then life would be so incomplete if it were to remain at that. Nevertheless, do you really feel that life gets so bad when we turn into adults? I mean no one would really want to kick you (even if its figurative) unless you did something really terrible.

Just a passing thought... as kids, we want to grow up real soon (I know I did), as whatever grownups do seems very interesting. After growing up, we long for childhood again, since we only tend to remember the good stuff (mostly) and idealize our childhood days. A case of 'greener grass on the other side'.. dont you think??

  2. I do agree that each stage of life has got its own pros and cons.
This article is not about condemning adulthood or to state that life should remain in its bambino stage. It is just to express my analysis of the affirmation - "When you come in the world everybody wants to kiss you :) but, before you go out everybody wants to kick you!"
In fact I have tried to give more reasons on how an adult is forced to accept the reality of the world. You cannot be good to everyone at every time because you have to move on in your life.
I said 'You are selfish because you have thirst' but never stated that having thirst in life is a bad thing.
What I meant by stating -'You compete because you want to win' is, you are doing the write thing because winning is everybody's dream and at the same time it is obvious that the person who lost to you wants to kick you (figuratively).

People accept parenthood not because it is all about changing nappies, but to enjoy the process of bringing up the baby! Don't know why you think so?!
Why there is politics in every field? Why people wait for an opportunity to pull each others leg? Why people want to come up in life using others weakness rather than their own competence? Don't you think these qualities are evident in our own profession? (Well..people are forced to do so! - You cannot be pure when you are in filth ;)) Still do you think no one wants to kick you at no point of time? Is the world around so good?

Of course completely agree with the last paragraph :)

  4. Firstly, glad to see such a long reply and a good one at that..

What I tried to (or rather wanted to) highlight through my comment is that your post presents a very dark view of adulthood. I concur that life is much harder for an adult than it is for a child. I agree life's no bed of roses for grownups, the only point is do you really find it that bad and gloomy? Every person's take on this can be very different.

People accept parenthood not because it is all about changing nappies, but to enjoy the process of bringing up the baby! Don't know why you think so?!

I agree, all I wanted to say there was that life isnt easy for people around us when we are kids.

I got too bored to continue with the rest of the reply!

    Time please!
